What is Missing from ROCK Music Today?

Hey ROCKERS!!

The future of ROCK may be in jeopardy and your help is needed NOW!!!

Often times, I hear new rock music and become disinterested.  Many new artists sound similar.  For example, take the 'indie genre'.  Indies is not a genre, and just because a singer has an acoustic guitar and maybe a harmonica, they are really folk, blues or some other legitimate 'genre'.

Now that I cleared that up on behalf of real, sophisticated music critics who always point the issue out, I have another real concern about ROCK's present state;  many new artists do not have the substance and staying power of the true greats.

I think this may always have been the case, but to illustrate this point just consider this next point.  I can listen to Zeppelin's 'Since I've Been Loving You', UFO 'Rock Bottom (LIVE Chicago, of course), Rainbow's 'Eye's of The World', Ozzy's 'Crazy Train', or other similar greats artists and songs over and over.  They resonate with me for years!  Sorry, I know I left out tons of great master artists, but it was for brevity and conciseness.

I really am not trying to be mean, overly critical of or to bash anyone because I encourage all motivated folks in many endeavors, not just music.  Good for them.  I hope they succeed!!

However, newer ROCK releases often lack something and do not engage me for long.  I wonder why?As a seasoned musician, I have a few ideas on this, but I'd like to hear from all my ROCKER friends out there …

So, what do you think is missing from rock music today?

For example, who is the next Jim Morrison?
Who is the next Rob Halford?
Who is the next Randy Rhodes?
Who is the next UFO, Micheal Schenker or The Scorpions?
Which original artist is inspired by Jimi Hendrix, but not just playing all his covers?
Who is the next John Lennon?
Who is the next Joe Cocker?  Bon Scott?
          And, so on …

Again and in closing, this is not to discourage or bash anyone, and I'm not here to make enemies.  Really this is just to understand and build on the ROCK music genre … Let's go!!

THANKS & ROCK ON!!

  1. I honestly don't think there is anything missing from the rock music today. I get lots of new music daily from some amazing artists. Due to the 'lack' of a real music industry they have to set a higher goal for themselves then the artists from the past.

  2. Thanks ROCKER EXTRAORDINAIRE Juli B!!

    Happy Holidays too!!

Okay, Let's play 'I say, You say' … Just list most relevant up & comers who come to mind ...
I say 'Jim Morrison' You say? …
I say 'Rob Halford', You say? …
I say 'Randy Rhodes', You say? …
I say 'UFO', You say? …
I say 'Jim Hendrix', You say? …
I say 'John Lennon', You say? …
I say 'Joe Cocker', You say? ...

Now, your turn at I say/ You Say Juls … Feel free to throw some back at me too …

But wait!! I almost forgot … Separately, since you broched the important business hurdle of the 'new' music industry; it has been fighting complete disintermediation, or the elimination of the 'sleazy', 'huckster' middle man.

The good news is that new IT services have empowered musicians and freed them. However, many realize that there is still such a front that is guarding the 'old school' business model's ivory towers. So, musicians are left to sort through a juggle of distracting IT tools that come and go, and sleazy club promoters are still out there. These 'trickster' middle men waste a lot of musicians time with promises to promote, trickster services, etc. There is also the religious and political dirty games of the UNHIGH (you know who I mean) that represses us LOVING FOLKS.

So, in 2013 and my humble opinion, musicians are trying to build their own music 'castle' of prosperity on a swamp of sinking logs.

I think this is root to 'the starving musician' in 2013 and the millenials frustration with the world.

Please weigh back in on this layer of the onion.

    Thanks Again & In Advance!!

    Ted
